New Cameras Enhance Safety in Myrtle Beach Area

Staff Report / MBlocal.org

Myrtle Beach City Government reports that new cameras have been installed along Pampas Drive in The Market Common area. This is part of an expansion of the city's Real Time Crime (RTC) camera system, which has added 118 additional camera views to assist the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The RTC camera system has been operational since 2015 and currently provides over 1,600 camera views throughout Myrtle Beach. This system is aimed at enhancing safety in local communities and supporting crimefighting efforts.

In addition to the recent camera installations, Myrtle Beach has improved its fiber infrastructure in The Market Common with the assistance of HTC. This underground fiber network enables the city to support a larger camera system, benefiting both residents and visitors.

Looking ahead, there are plans for further RTC expansion in The Market Common. More than 60 additional locations have been identified for future camera installations, which are set to provide an extra 240 camera views starting in 2025 and beyond.
