Myrtle Beach Shares Essential Halloween Safety Tips

Staff Report / MBlocal.org

As Halloween approaches, the City of Myrtle Beach is reminding residents of important safety tips for trick-or-treating. The city does not set specific trick-or-treating hours, but Halloween is observed on October 31.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to have a responsible adult accompany children while they collect treats. When visiting homes, they should only approach those with porch lights on.

Safety on the streets is also emphasized. Children should always cross streets at designated intersections and crosswalks. Costumes should include reflective material to help with visibility, and it is advised to use makeup instead of masks to enhance vision during nighttime activities. Additionally, costumes should be short enough to prevent any trip hazards.

It is recommended to use flashlights to improve visibility for both the children and motorists. Parents should inspect all candy before children eat it to ensure safety. Finally, staying aware of surroundings is highlighted as an important practice during Halloween festivities.

The friendly Halloween characters, Myrtle, Officer Boo, and Candy Carl, are set to remind local children to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween.
