MBPD Issues Safety Tips to Prevent Theft

Staff Report / MBlocal.org

The Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) is urging residents and visitors to take precautionary steps to protect their homes and vehicles from theft.

To deter potential thieves, the MBPD recommends several safety measures:

- Always lock your vehicle when it's not in use.

- Ensure that all exterior doors of your home are closed and locked.

- Set your home and car alarms to enhance security.

- Turn on exterior lights to illuminate the area around your property.

- Close and lock all windows to prevent entry.

- Bring any valuables and weapons inside to avoid leaving them exposed.

- Make sure your garage door is closed and secure.

Additionally, the MBPD warns against leaving valuables in plain sight in parked vehicles and advises individuals to park in well-lit areas or near security cameras to further minimize risk.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity by adhering to the "See Something Say Something" principle to help maintain safety in the community.
