Myrtle Beach city government shared rules for using fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July, including the allowed times, where fireworks are prohibited, and the fines for violations.

The city’s rules allow fireworks on private property with the property owner’s permission between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. any day of the year. The time limits are extended for July 5 and New Year’s Day, with fireworks allowed until 12:30 a.m.

Under those rules, fireworks are prohibited on the beach and on other public property, except for professional displays approved by the Fire Marshal. Violations are described as a civil infraction with a $250 fine for the first offense and a $500 fine for second and subsequent violations in the same year.

The city also said fireworks use is allowed for people under 18 if a parent or guardian is present. Minors are not allowed to shoot fireworks at any time unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Myrtle Beach rules make it illegal to shoot or throw fireworks toward any person, animal, structure or vehicle, including golf carts. The $250/$500 fine schedule applies for these violations.

The city added that it is illegal to shoot or throw fireworks from a vehicle, and to discharge personal fireworks within 500 feet of any church, hospital or school, or within 300 feet of any gas station or business where flammable goods are sold.

The city urged residents to keep neighbors and pets in mind and to avoid disturbing others, noting that fireworks are not allowed on the beach or other public property.
